Archaeology

Our degree in Archaeology integrates traditional archaeology with the practical application of scientific methods that are applied to today’s archaeology. It is a professionally-focused degree in archaeology with a strong fieldwork component and a focus on human osteology or the environment. Your degree pathway in the second and final years will comprise a number of compulsory core modules that characterise this combination of archaeology and applied archaeological science. Architechtual Technology

Our new Architectural Technology degree brings together all aspects of the design process, from concept through to completion, to develop the key skills you'll need for a career in this exciting and fast-growing sector. Learning will be centred around our dedicated design studios where you will work on authentic design projects, developing a sound understanding of the processes of design and construction primarily through Revit, BIM, virtual reality, architecture in a global context, project management, procurement and construction contract. Biomedical Science

The Biomedical Science (Honours) degree requires an interest in science and technology. You will undertake in-depth study into human health and explore the causes of disease that have a major global impact at a systems, cellular and molecular level. You will learn how biomedical research is helping researchers and clinicians develop novel therapeutic strategies and inform government health policy. As part of our frontline medical team, biomedical scientists in healthcare laboratories are involved in over 70% of UK diagnoses and play vital roles in monitoring chronic diseases. Studying biomedical science will also prepare you for a broad range of scientific careers beyond NHS and public laboratories, including research and development, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, the food and water industry, clinical trials, medical sales and teaching. The programme provides the opportunity to enhance your profile further with an optional placement year between years two and three, enabling you to either work in a relevant field or study abroad. Entry onto the clinical sciences course is either directly onto our three-year programme or via our clinical sciences with integrated foundation year programme, which prepares you to study health or science courses. The course has a clinical focus and a strong emphasis on anatomy, physiology, and employability skills. Forensic and Medical Science

This course develops skills in core biomedical, chemical and forensic sciences, helping you become a skilled forensic practitioner. The emphasis is on biosciences, and then shifts towards disease processes and forensic investigation of physical evidence types. In addition to the pursuit of core sciences, you will study forensic investigation in anthropology and topics relating to archaeology - including the degradation of human remains and physical materials - which will develop your skills in forensic interpretation. The final year develops your professional skills through a forensic research dissertation. The course prepares you for a wide range of careers, including those in the professional medical and forensic sectors because of its broad basis and application.

Forensic Anthropology

This degree explores how archaeological techniques and the analysis of human remains are used in a forensic (medico-legal) context. You will gain a full grounding in archaeological excavation, surveying and recording of crime scenes. In addition, you will also learn about human anatomy and anthropological analysis of human remains, including age, sex, ancestry assessment and the analysis and interpretation of trauma. Specialist modules will allow you to understand how scientific techniques are used to build up a biological profile of unidentified remains; processes of decomposition (and preservation) of human tissues and associated materials; trauma analysis; and forensic identification of living people. You'll also gain an understanding of scientific principles and how data should be presented in a legal context.

Forensic Science

This Forensic Science degree focuses on the processing and analysis of physical evidence from crime scenes, and includes a placement sandwich year in industry. The course emphasises the application of science - in particular analytical chemistry - and stresses the importance of quality assurance procedures in a forensic setting. A characteristic of the University of Bradford's approach is the integration of practical skills training within a good theoretical framework – whether in terms of crime scene investigation, the collection, examination and interpretation of physical evidence, laboratory processing and analysis. The course provides you with a sound knowledge of how scientific techniques can be used within forensic investigations, and allows you to explore a challenging area of applied science. You will develop into a professional with the scientific skills to work within areas such as crime scene investigation, forensic science and related laboratory areas. Throughout your degree you will acquire skills that will be useful in whatever profession you choose to follow. These include project and time management, critical review and analytical thinking, presentational skills, computer and other applied IT skills and the management of data. These will be taught, practised and assessed. Bradford was the first university in the UK to offer a forensics science degree, and we continue to develop the programme to ensure that it is up-to-date with the requirements of the forensics sector. As such, we have refocused the forensics degree to offer a solid understanding of fundamental chemistry in stages 2 and 3, with a focused final year dedicated to the application of forensic science. Crime scene techniques are taught in our dedicated crime scene facility, with analysis of evidence supported by a forensics laboratory and the University’s Centre for Chemical and Structural Analysis. Foundation in Clinical Sciences and Medicine leading to Clinical Sciences

The course is aimed at a wide range of students, including those with a science background or non-science qualifications. The aim of the programme is to provide you with an integrated knowledge and understanding of science and health-related issues, putting you in an excellent position to apply to medical school or a variety of courses leading to careers within the health sector or pharmaceutical industries. On completion of the programme, many students have progressed to Medical School and the BSc (Hons) in Clinical Sciences. Students have also accessed many healthcare sciences programmes leading to careers. An important focus of Foundation in Clinical Sciences and Medicine leading to BSc Clinical Sciences is to encourage progression into medicine and healthcare education from under-represented groups. In addition to progression onto the BSc (Hons) in Clinical Sciences, we have an established partnership with Sheffield Medical School so that Foundation in Clinical Sciences and Medicine leading to BSc Clinical Sciences provides a formal opportunity for widening participation students to apply to enter the MBChB at Sheffield (subject to meeting academic, widening participation, UCAT and passing the Mulitple Mini Interview criteria - please see Sheffield Medical School's website for further details). This opportunity is only available to home students. In addition to our relationship with Sheffield Medical School, the high quality of our Foundation programme means that it is also recognised by other medical schools. Students have applied successfully to Leeds, Brighton and Sussex, and Norwich medical schools. Game design and Development

Part of Screen Yorkshire’s Connected Campus group, our four-year Game Design and Development degree programme has been carefully designed to meet the demands of the contemporary gaming industry. With a particular emphasis on the blend between the technical and creative aspects of games design, you’ll be taught the core theories that underpin the discipline and use these to guide your practical work and, in turn, gain the vocational experience needed to embark on a career in this fast-growing industry. You'll benefit our close links to the Yorkshire games industry associations, from talks and workshops delivered by invited industry experts, and have the opportunity to collaborate with other animators and computer scientists at Bradford and Qingdao, China. The high level of industry knowledge and insight gained here will provide you with the knowledge base you need to emerge as a confident and competent games professional. You’ll have regular access to state-of-the-art facilities like the six camera Motion Capture Suite and technical equipment which you can use to put theory into practice and enhance your skillset. You can borrow equipment for you own personal projects too. In your final year you will undertake a bespoke studio project, where you can collaborate with other disciplines and put theory into practice, whilst showcasing the skills you’ve developed throughout the course.

International Business and Management

Develop the skills you need to manage business operations in the global economy. You’ll explore key international corporate and economic issues, and get the tools and commercial insight you need to launch a managerial career anywhere in the world, or pursue entrepreneurial opportunities. You can tailor your studies to emerging areas of interest or career aspirations through a range of optional modules in areas such as marketing, finance and human resource management. A sandwich placement year, taken in year three of the programme, enables you to develop your skills and professional confidence - and boosts your employability on graduation. You’ll build a broad foundation of knowledge on all aspects of business and management, ensuring you graduate as a well-rounded professional with excellent commercial awareness and an invaluable global perspective.

International Relations, Politics and Security Studies

This innovative programme will give you a rigorous understanding of international relations and politics, and of conflict and security issues - globally and regionally across the world. While placing international developments within historical context, it focusses particularly on recent and contemporary processes, trends and problems: examining efforts to respond to international and regional challenges in the spheres of policy and practice. The programme combines in-depth academic training in key concepts, theories and case-studies, alongside a structured process of engagement with contemporary debates and experience by policy-makers, diplomats and practitioners. You will have opportunities to learn beyond the classroom through political simulation exercises, field trips and specialist workshops creating new bridges between academic and practical dimensions of the field. This programme is delivered by the Division of Peace Studies and International Development, an internationally recognised centre for excellence in teaching, research, and policy engagement on International Relations, Peace, Conflict and Security issues.

Law

Our LLB (Hons) degree gives you a rigorous academic legal education and a thorough grounding in legal, academic and clinical skills needed for you to pursue a career as a solicitor or barrister, as well as equipping you for employment in other areas if you choose not to go on to a professional qualification in law. The programme is taught by a mix of academic experts and practitioner lawyers, who put real world clinical legal experience at the heart of the programme. You’ll develop a critical grasp of the law and its political, social and economic contexts. Our LLB programme is flexible in structure and has core first and second years including all seven law foundation subjects. This gives you the ability to switch to a more specialist LLB in the final year and tailor your study to a particular aspect of law by choosing options relating to criminal law, commercial law or social justice or choosing a range of options. Legal Theory and Solicitors Practice MLaw

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), the professional body governing training and qualification for solicitors, introduced the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) as the new route to qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales. The MLaw programme addresses this and provides a distinct route to prepare you for the SQE. The MLaw contains specialist preparatory modules (SQE1 Legal Theory & Solicitors Practice, and SQE2 Legal Theory & Solicitors Practice) that provide you with specific one-to-one support and guidance to perform effectively in both the SRA’s SQE1 and SQE2 assessments. The MLaw also gives you a rigorous legal education with an in-depth grounding in practical legal and transferable skills. The course develops your legal, academic and clinical skills at every stage of your journey. The programme is taught by a mix of academic experts and practitioner lawyers, who put real-world clinical legal experience at the heart of the programme. They'll give you the tools you need to graduate as a capable and reflective practitioner, equipped for qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales. As an MLaw student, you'll benefit from working throughout your degree alongside staff in our Law Clinic who possess national and international legal experience and who have worked both regionally and in the City. You can also undertake a work placement year. These opportunities will enhance your employability and contribute to the two-year Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) required by the SRA for you to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales.

Master of Optometry

In our aging population, the demand for eye care is expected to increase, and optometrists are ideally placed to help meet this demand in both the NHS and private practice. Our integrated 4-year Master of Optometry (MOptom) programme has been completely redesigned for 2024, modernising our course content and structure to enable you to proceed directly to registration as a fully-qualified optometrist with the General Optical Council (GOC) upon completion. Upon graduation, you will be a skilled, patient-focussed optometrist ready for modern optometric practice. You will be eligible to register with the GOC and practise independently as an optometrist in the UK. You will be highly employable, having developed excellent clinical and communication skills and will be well equipped for lifelong learning and ongoing professional development throughout your career.

MPhysiotherapy - Sports and Exercise Medicine

This programme is designed for students wishing to develop knowledge and skills specifically relevant to sport and exercise settings, as well as more traditional physiotherapy environments. Graduates gain a professional Master's qualification in physiotherapy, opening up a range of career opportunities as a physiotherapist in the sport, exercise and health and wellbeing sectors. It also provides foundation for further research study. The MPhysiotherapy curriculum is extended over 4 years with more opportunities to research, and longer placements in sport and excercise settings. Alternatively, have a look at the University's highly regarded 3 year BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy course. You will undertake a range of placements in professional and amateur sport settings, including the University's Physiotherapy and Sport Rehabilitation Clinic, as well other physiotherapy settings.

Nursing (Adult)

The three-year full-time degree in Nursing leads to a professional nursing qualification and eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. This is a practical, patient-centred course with equal amounts of theory and clinical practice which enables students to experience different aspects of healthcare. Spanning the rural Yorkshire Dales to inner city districts, no other area of the UK offers the rich diversity of clinical experience available through the University and its partner Trusts. Throughout your studies you will be taught by a team of professional nurses supported by other staff at the Faculty of Health Studies, and have access to a suite of purpose-built practice simulation suites, which allow you to be taught and to practise your core clinical skills, from bed making, moving patients and taking blood pressure to giving injections, ward rounds and dispensing medication, and simulation of the seriously ill person using our interactive models. The clinical wards house a variety of equipment which you would normally find in clinical practice. Following graduation and registration, nurses are expected to continue to develop their knowledge and skills, and we offer a variety of short courses and postgraduate study options which allow nurses to specialise in areas of interest.

Nursing (Adult) - Harrogate and District NHS Trust

The University of Bradford and Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust have joined together to offer a Harrogate Pathway with the aim to recruit locally and therefore develop a sustainable workforce. This pathway may be of interest to local people with commitments in the area, especially more mature applicants with dependants who may find travelling further afield difficult. By providing all but one of the practice placements within the Trust we are offering a long term relationship to students. This is also reflected within our commitment agreement. The pathway is advantageous to the Trust as newly registered practitioners who have followed the pathway will be familiar with the Trust policies and processes as well as having developed working relationships with existing staff.

Nursing (Mental Health)

The three-year full-time degree in Nursing leads to a professional nursing qualification and eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. This is a practical, patient-centred course with equal amounts of theory and clinical practice which allows you to experience a range of healthcare services. Studying in Bradford gives you experience of the mental health needs of a very diverse population. Your placements will cover a multi-ethnic city with pockets of affluence but also high levels of deprivation. You will also gain experience in a post-industrial town, a market town and the Yorkshire Dales, all with widely different communities experiencing different mental health problems. You will receive highly rated support whilst you gain experience in challenging but rewarding clinical placements.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists help people recover from physical or mental illness, supporting them to live their life to the fullest. You’ll work with both adults and children in a range of health and social care settings, finding creative solutions to day-to-day problems. You'll learn from highly experienced practising Occupational Therapists in a small cohort, and develop your skills in real-life environments and situations, both in our outstanding simulation facilities and on our diverse range of practice placements, undertaken in all three years.

Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science

Throughout the course, you'll build a strong understanding of formulation science, product and process development, manufacturing and quality assurance. Alongside pharmaceutical and cosmetic science practical capabilities, the programme offers opportunities to develop transferable workplace skills, including time management, adaptability, self-directed working, reflectiveness, appreciation of diversity, application of different approaches, and presentation skills. Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science BSc (Hons) draws on our long-established relationship with BeeVital Propolis, which will give you the opportunity to collaborate with guest industry speakers and explore site visits.

Pharmacy MPharm

Our innovative degree programme, delivered predominantly by Team-Based Learning (TBL), has been designed by pharmacists, educators, students and employers to ensure that you will graduate not only with the necessary knowledge and skills of a pharmacy graduate, but also with the confidence, communication, team-working, and problem-solving skills needed to secure employment. Our classes simulate the workplace and you will work in small teams to solve real-world problems, many of which are brought into the classroom from pharmacy practice by our team of pharmacist teacher-practitioners. On graduation you will then need to successfully complete a 1-year Foundation period in order to become a qualified pharmacist. Alternatively you can choose our 5-year MPharm programme, which enables you to undertake your Foundation training as part of the programme. This means you will leave us as a qualified pharmacist, pending successful completion of the GPhC registration exam. Whichever one you choose, you can be assured that our MPharm programmes have been specially designed so that you leave us fully prepared for contemporary pharmacy practice, and with the skills and confidence to succeed and achieve your full potential in your future employment.

Physiotherapy

As a student at Bradford you’ll develop the skills you need to take a key role in the management of both acute and long-term conditions, helping restore and maintain function and activity, and prevent of injury or illness. You will develop strong leadership skills enabling you to manage and lead teams often working in emerging roles with new providers. The Bradford approach emphasises the integration and application of theory and practice to produce an adaptable, innovative graduate with excellent professional skills who can use a research-based, evaluative, problem-solving approach to physiotherapy practice. Psychology and Criminology

This new degree combines the fields of psychology and criminology. Through scientific study, staff expertise from both areas work together to integrate insights from both disciplines. It not only covers the curriculum recommended by the British Psychological Society (BPS), through which you will develop an understanding of the individual, but also engages with criminological theories exploring crime, victims, societal structures and the operation of the criminal justice system. For example, you will explore internal human motivation, development, and mental processes. The course places particular emphasis on applying theoretical knowledge to practical, real world issues and controversies. You will examine current psychological-criminological debates by developing research design and analysis skills, allowing you to conduct your own research. This means you will develop expertise to match your future career goals: going onto phase 1 of becoming a forensic psychologist or working within the criminal justice system. Therefore, the course also aims to further develop your intellectual and transferable employability skills, for example, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and problem solving. Social Work

Become a Social Work England-accredited social worker, equipped to practice in a range of settings, with the BA (Hons) in Social Work. You’ll learn the latest theory and gain hands-on practical experience, in a research-led learning environment. The programme has been developed in close collaboration with partner social work agencies to ensure you develop the skills you need to excel in this challenging profession. You will learn a range of practice skills to ensure you can work effectively with individuals, families and groups, including the use of art, play and role play. In years two and three you will develop real-world experience on practice learning modules, enabling you to apply your knowledge in social work settings. On graduation you will have a wide range of career opportunities open to you in both the public and private sector. Sociology

Sociology is a global and vital discipline. As a Sociology student at Bradford you’ll analyse and understand the social world with depth and conviction. The subject is driven by those who have an interest in not only studying society, but also a desire to make society more just and equal. Our approach to Sociology at Bradford starts with ensuring you are intellectually stimulated and engaged with the subject matter. We do this firstly through our academic staff, all of whom are research-active and highly enthusiastic about what they teach. All our teaching is student-focussed. Working with Children, Young People and Families

Gain the skills you need for a career working with children and families in this three-year, full-time BA (Hons) programme. Advanced Biomedical Engineering

This MSc programme is designed to provide an advanced biomedical engineering education and to develop specialist understanding; the programme contains a large project component which allows you to develop advanced knowledge and research skills in a specialist area. The programme also aims to develop a multidisciplinary understanding of the subject, which can be applied in a variety of clinical, biomedical and industrial settings. All subjects are taught by biomedical/medical engineers and clinical scientists. This allows you to gain the related skills and experience in healthcare science and technology, engineering principles and manufacturing, and management of various industry standard medical devices. Advanced Chemical and Petroleum Engineering

Chemical Engineering provides essential tools based on the concept of sustainability and low carbon footprint for changing raw materials into useful products in a safe and cost effective way. Chemical Engineers understand how to alter the chemical, biochemical or physical state of a substance, to create everything from health care products (face creams, shampoo, perfume, drugs) to food (dairy products, cereals, agro-chemicals) and water (desalination for freshwater) to energy (petroleum to nuclear fuels). It is suitable for candidates with an undergraduate degree qualification looking to strengthen their technical knowledge and improve their career potential in the sector. You will practice by developing designs for real projects. In the design project module you will be guided throughout by our Industrial Royal Academy of Engineering visiting professor from Arup. This full-time Master's programme will deepen your technical ability, broaden your understanding of other branches of engineering, and enhance your research skills. It is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and develops leadership and managerial strengths that can lead to Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. You'll learn the principles underpinning the design and control of mechanical systems, along with computational and simulation methods used to ensure the reliability and robustness of mechanical systems. Applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics

This new MSc programme has been designed in response to the shortage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics (DA) specialists in the UK. It equips you for a career in either the booming space sector (with the global space economy projected to grow to £490 billion by 2030), or in AI and Data Analytics (which are among the world’s top 3 fastest growing jobs). You will learn how space technology plays a critical role in our daily lives You will qualify as a data scientist and AI/ML engineer who understands space technologies including geospatial, navigational, communication, exploration and space cybersecurity. Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics combines knowledge from a variety of disciplines such as biology, computer science, mathematics and statistics to analyse and interpret biological data on a large scale. The Bioinformatics programme at Bradford includes training in experimental techniques that complements commonly used data acquisition methods in a broad range of investigative scenarios. This is designed to provide a basic training in the principles of bioinformatics, followed by coverage of the advanced level of knowledge and training required relevant to large-scale data mining and processing, including programming and scripting via command line and the Galaxy interface. Doctorate in Medicine MD

This programme is aimed at qualified doctors with clinical experience, providing a tailored training component accompanying student doctoral research. Strong links between clinicians and the University are already in place and the student will develop their research questions with their clinical line manager and university supervisor(s) before undertaking appropriate experimental laboratory and/or clinical work to answer these and produce a thesis of novel publishable work. The programme enables the student, with the support of the University and clinical supervisors, to ensure that all of the necessary skills to be an excellent researcher can be acquired. Forensic Archaeology and Crime Scene Investigation

Forensic Archaeology is the specialist application of archaeological techniques to the search and recovery of evidential material from crime scenes, often but not always related to buried human remains. This course is taught by staff with extensive crime scene experience who regularly work on a range of operations and are at the forefront of the professional development of the discipline. This course combines approaches from different disciplines to provide students with a comprehensive forensic skill set. It is essential that forensic archaeologists are able to appreciate their role within a wider police investigation and have a detailed understanding of crime scene management procedures. Forensic Archaeology in the United Kingdom is rapidly developing and recognised as a distinct discipline by the Home Office Forensic Science Regulator. Bradford staff have been actively involved in defining skills matrices for use by the Institute for Archaeologists as part of the process of professional regulation.

Forensic Science

It enables you to identify and quantify unknown materials related to a crime, to be responsible for initial investigation and prioritisation. Human Bioarchaeology and Palaeopathology

This course emphasises the study of archaeological human remains within their funerary context. It builds upon the School of Archaeological and Forensic Sciences' extensive research in human bioarchaeology and palaeopathology and related research expertise in field archaeology, archaeozoology, molecular archaeology and archaeological biogeochemistry. The course strongly emphasises the integration of biological and archaeological evidence to address problem-orientated research themes and the application of scientific methods to unravelling the human past. It provides advanced instruction in the identification and analysis of human remains, the techniques and methods applied to understanding human skeletal morphological variation, and the means by which to assess pathological conditions affecting the skeleton. The course provides access to our world-renowned collection of reference material (The Biological Anthropology Research Centre curates over 5,000 individuals), hands-on experience in the School's laboratories, and a substantial individual research dissertation. The course can be used either as vocational training or as a foundation from which to commence further research. The course is normally offered on a full-time basis but a part-time route is also feasible. Individual modules are available to candidates wishing to enhance their specialist knowledge in a particular area.

This dual-award programme is fully accredited by Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), giving full exemption against their Level 7 Advanced Diploma in HRM. It will prepare you for a senior leadership position in HR, giving you the tools you need to distinguish yourself from the competition and the expertise needed to shape the HR agenda in any sector. You’ll gain insights into the activities, functions and environment of an organisation, and how HR functions can make a key contribution to its success. The programme will give you a comprehensive grounding in the core disciplines of HR practice. Pharmaceutical Technology and Medicines Control

This programme is unique as it combines the study of pharmaceutical technology, including pharmaceutical sciences, and medicines control. It has been designed to provide you with an advanced theoretical knowledge of sciences that are related to disciplines in pharmaceutical sciences, and give you the skills you need for laboratory work in this area. These disciplines include the development of pharmaceutical formulation, with particular emphasis on the technology used in the pharmaceutical process and the development and production of medicines. Forensic and Medical Science

This course develops skills in core biomedical, chemical and forensic sciences, helping you become a skilled forensic practitioner. The emphasis is on biosciences, and then shifts towards disease processes and forensic investigation of physical evidence types. In addition to the pursuit of core sciences, you will study forensic investigation in anthropology and topics relating to archaeology - including the degradation of human remains and physical materials - which will develop your skills in forensic interpretation. The final year develops your professional skills through a forensic research dissertation. The course prepares you for a wide range of careers, including those in the professional medical and forensic sectors because of its broad basis and application.

Forensic Anthropology

This degree explores how archaeological techniques and the analysis of human remains are used in a forensic (medico-legal) context. You will gain a full grounding in archaeological excavation, surveying and recording of crime scenes. In addition, you will also learn about human anatomy and anthropological analysis of human remains, including age, sex, ancestry assessment and the analysis and interpretation of trauma. Specialist modules will allow you to understand how scientific techniques are used to build up a biological profile of unidentified remains; processes of decomposition (and preservation) of human tissues and associated materials; trauma analysis; and forensic identification of living people. You'll also gain an understanding of scientific principles and how data should be presented in a legal context.

Forensic Science

This Forensic Science degree focuses on the processing and analysis of physical evidence from crime scenes, and includes a placement sandwich year in industry. The course emphasises the application of science - in particular analytical chemistry - and stresses the importance of quality assurance procedures in a forensic setting. A characteristic of the University of Bradford's approach is the integration of practical skills training within a good theoretical framework – whether in terms of crime scene investigation, the collection, examination and interpretation of physical evidence, laboratory processing and analysis. The course provides you with a sound knowledge of how scientific techniques can be used within forensic investigations, and allows you to explore a challenging area of applied science. You will develop into a professional with the scientific skills to work within areas such as crime scene investigation, forensic science and related laboratory areas. Throughout your degree you will acquire skills that will be useful in whatever profession you choose to follow. These include project and time management, critical review and analytical thinking, presentational skills, computer and other applied IT skills and the management of data. These will be taught, practised and assessed. Bradford was the first university in the UK to offer a forensics science degree, and we continue to develop the programme to ensure that it is up-to-date with the requirements of the forensics sector. As such, we have refocused the forensics degree to offer a solid understanding of fundamental chemistry in stages 2 and 3, with a focused final year dedicated to the application of forensic science. Crime scene techniques are taught in our dedicated crime scene facility, with analysis of evidence supported by a forensics laboratory and the University’s Centre for Chemical and Structural Analysis. The interdisciplinary nature of our research at Bradford means we can call upon expertise from our colleagues in archaeology who use forensics science techniques to study human remains, such as the Llullaillaco Maiden, discovered in 1999.

Foundation in Clinical Sciences and Medicine leading to Clinical Sciences

The course is aimed at a wide range of students, including those with a science background or non-science qualifications. The aim of the programme is to provide you with an integrated knowledge and understanding of science and health-related issues, putting you in an excellent position to apply to medical school or a variety of courses leading to careers within the health sector or pharmaceutical industries. On completion of the programme, many students have progressed to Medical School and the BSc (Hons) in Clinical Sciences. Students have also accessed many healthcare sciences programmes leading to careers. An important focus of Foundation in Clinical Sciences and Medicine leading to BSc Clinical Sciences is to encourage progression into medicine and healthcare education from under-represented groups. The MLaw programme addresses this and provides a distinct route to prepare you for the SQE. The MLaw contains specialist preparatory modules (SQE1 Legal Theory & Solicitors Practice, and SQE2 Legal Theory & Solicitors Practice) that provide you with specific one-to-one support and guidance to perform effectively in both the SRA’s SQE1 and SQE2 assessments. The MLaw also gives you a rigorous legal education with an in-depth grounding in practical legal and transferable skills. This programme is designed for students wishing to develop knowledge and skills specifically relevant to sport and exercise settings, as well as more traditional physiotherapy environments. Nursing (Adult)

The three-year full-time degree in Nursing leads to a professional nursing qualification and eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. This is a practical, patient-centred course with equal amounts of theory and clinical practice which enables students to experience different aspects of healthcare. Spanning the rural Yorkshire Dales to inner city districts, no other area of the UK offers the rich diversity of clinical experience available through the University and its partner Trusts. Throughout your studies you will be taught by a team of professional nurses supported by other staff at the Faculty of Health Studies, and have access to a suite of purpose-built practice simulation suites, which allow you to be taught and to practise your core clinical skills, from bed making, moving patients and taking blood pressure to giving injections, ward rounds and dispensing medication, and simulation of the seriously ill person using our interactive models. The clinical wards house a variety of equipment which you would normally find in clinical practice. Following graduation and registration, nurses are expected to continue to develop their knowledge and skills, and we offer a variety of short courses and postgraduate study options which allow nurses to specialise in areas of interest.

Nursing (Adult) - Harrogate and District NHS Trust

The University of Bradford and Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust have joined together to offer a Harrogate Pathway with the aim to recruit locally and therefore develop a sustainable workforce. This pathway may be of interest to local people with commitments in the area, especially more mature applicants with dependants who may find travelling further afield difficult. By providing all but one of the practice placements within the Trust we are offering a long term relationship to students. This is also reflected within our commitment agreement. The pathway is advantageous to the Trust as newly registered practitioners who have followed the pathway will be familiar with the Trust policies and processes as well as having developed working relationships with existing staff.

Nursing (Mental Health)

The three-year full-time degree in Nursing leads to a professional nursing qualification and eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. This is a practical, patient-centred course with equal amounts of theory and clinical practice which allows you to experience a range of healthcare services. Studying in Bradford gives you experience of the mental health needs of a very diverse population. Your placements will cover a multi-ethnic city with pockets of affluence but also high levels of deprivation. Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science

Throughout the course, you'll build a strong understanding of formulation science, product and process development, manufacturing and quality assurance. Pharmacy MPharm

Our innovative degree programme, delivered predominantly by Team-Based Learning (TBL), has been designed by pharmacists, educators, students and employers to ensure that you will graduate not only with the necessary knowledge and skills of a pharmacy graduate, but also with the confidence, communication, team-working, and problem-solving skills needed to secure employment. Our classes simulate the workplace and you will work in small teams to solve real-world problems, many of which are brought into the classroom from pharmacy practice by our team of pharmacist teacher-practitioners. On graduation you will then need to successfully complete a 1-year Foundation period in order to become a qualified pharmacist. Alternatively you can choose our 5-year MPharm programme, which enables you to undertake your Foundation training as part of the programme. Advanced Mechanical Engineering

This full-time Master's programme will deepen your technical ability, broaden your understanding of other branches of engineering, and enhance your research skills. It is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and develops leadership and managerial strengths that can lead to Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. You'll learn the principles underpinning the design and control of mechanical systems, along with computational and simulation methods used to ensure the reliability and robustness of mechanical systems. Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics combines knowledge from a variety of disciplines such as biology, computer science, mathematics and statistics to analyse and interpret biological data on a large scale. The Bioinformatics programme at Bradford includes training in experimental techniques that complements commonly used data acquisition methods in a broad range of investigative scenarios. Doctorate in Medicine MD

This programme is aimed at qualified doctors with clinical experience, providing a tailored training component accompanying student doctoral research. Strong links between clinicians and the University are already in place and the student will develop their research questions with their clinical line manager and university supervisor(s) before undertaking appropriate experimental laboratory and/or clinical work to answer these and produce a thesis of novel publishable work. This course combines approaches from different disciplines to provide students with a comprehensive forensic skill set. It is essential that forensic archaeologists are able to appreciate their role within a wider police investigation and have a detailed understanding of crime scene management procedures. Forensic Archaeology in the United Kingdom is rapidly developing and recognised as a distinct discipline by the Home Office Forensic Science Regulator. Bradford staff have been actively involved in defining skills matrices for use by the Institute for Archaeologists as part of the process of professional regulation.

Forensic Science

This Master’s programme provides practical, analytical and interpretative skills in forensic chemistry and forensic biology. It enables you to identify and quantify unknown materials related to a crime, to be responsible for initial investigation and prioritisation. This course emphasises the study of archaeological human remains within their funerary context. It builds upon the School of Archaeological and Forensic Sciences' extensive research in human bioarchaeology and palaeopathology and related research expertise in field archaeology, archaeozoology, molecular archaeology and archaeological biogeochemistry. The course strongly emphasises the integration of biological and archaeological evidence to address problem-orientated research themes and the application of scientific methods to unravelling the human past. It provides advanced instruction in the identification and analysis of human remains, the techniques and methods applied to understanding human skeletal morphological variation, and the means by which to assess pathological conditions affecting the skeleton. The course provides access to our world-renowned collection of reference material (The Biological Anthropology Research Centre curates over 5,000 individuals), hands-on experience in the School's laboratories, and a substantial individual research dissertation. The course can be used either as vocational training or as a foundation from which to commence further research. The course is normally offered on a full-time basis but a part-time route is also feasible. Individual modules are available to candidates wishing to enhance their specialist knowledge in a particular area.

Pharmaceutical Technology and Medicines Control

This programme is unique as it combines the study of pharmaceutical technology, including pharmaceutical sciences, and medicines control. It has been designed to provide you with an advanced theoretical knowledge of sciences that are related to disciplines in pharmaceutical sciences, and give you the skills you need for laboratory work in this area. These disciplines include the development of pharmaceutical formulation, with particular emphasis on the technology used in the pharmaceutical process and the development and production of medicines. Satellite Systems Engineering

This programme is unique in covering not only the three pillars of space/satellite systems: communications, earth observation and navigation, but also artificial intelligence (AI), radio frequency (RF) engineering, and digital signal processing (DSP), all of which are foundational to future satellite and telecommunications systems. You will acquire important theoretical knowledge, gain hands-on experience using industry-standard hardware equipment and software platforms, and benefit from interactions with the UK industry through industrial seminars, visits and/or collaborative projects.
